About Me

Hi, I’m Hannah

Home cook, recipe developer, and the creator of The Plated Joy.

Welcome! I’m so happy you’re here.

I’m Hannah, a home cook in my mid-thirties, wife, mom, and lifelong believer that some of life’s best moments happen around the dinner table.

Whether it’s a quick Tuesday night dinner after a busy day, a cozy weekend breakfast with my family, or a homemade dessert shared with friends, I believe food has a way of bringing people together.

That’s exactly why I created The Plated Joy—to help everyday home cooks prepare meals that are approachable, dependable, and genuinely enjoyable.

I don’t believe cooking has to be complicated to be delicious. My goal is to create recipes that use everyday ingredients, clear instructions, and practical techniques so anyone can cook with confidence.

How My Love for Cooking Began

Growing up, the kitchen was always the busiest room in our home.

Some of my favorite memories are helping prepare family dinners, learning simple cooking techniques, and watching recipes come together one ingredient at a time.

Over the years, cooking became more than just preparing meals, it became my favorite creative outlet.

As life became busier with work, marriage, and raising children, I learned how valuable reliable, uncomplicated recipes really are.

Like many home cooks, I’ve had recipes fail, dinners burn, sauces separate, and baked goods flop. Those experiences taught me what actually works in a real kitchen.

Today, every recipe I publish is designed with busy families and everyday cooks in mind. You’ll find everything from quick dinners to easy desserts, all created to fit into everyday life.

Why I Started The Plated Joy

When I began searching for recipes online, I often found two extremes:

  • Recipes that were unnecessarily complicated.
  • Recipes that skipped important details and left beginners frustrated.

I wanted to create something different.

The Plated Joy focuses on recipes that are:

  • Easy to follow
  • Family-friendly
  • Tested multiple times
  • Made with ingredients you’ll actually find at your local grocery store
  • Full of practical tips that make cooking easier

Whether you’re preparing dinner after work, hosting family over the weekend, or trying something new for the first time, my goal is to help you feel confident in the kitchen. If you’re looking for inspiration, explore my latest recipes or browse the complete recipe collection.

My Recipe Development Process

Every recipe published on The Plated Joy goes through a consistent testing process before it reaches the website.

Each recipe is:

✓ Cooked from start to finish in my own kitchen

✓ Adjusted for flavor, texture, and consistency

✓ Written with step-by-step instructions

✓ Measured using standard U.S. measurements

✓ Photographed after final testing

I also include practical information like:

  • Storage instructions
  • Meal prep tips
  • Make-ahead options
  • Freezer recommendations
  • Nutrition estimates whenever possible

I know how frustrating it is when recipes leave out important details, so I try to answer the questions I’d want answered before cooking.

Life Outside the Kitchen

This is my golden retriever, who never misses the chance to keep me company while I’m cooking or photographing recipes. You’ll usually find him patiently waiting nearby, hoping a few crumbs might make their way to the floor. He may not help with recipe testing, but he definitely makes every day in the kitchen a little more fun.

When I’m not testing recipes, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family, enjoying long walks with our golden retriever, browsing local farmers’ markets, or relaxing with a good cookbook and a cup of coffee.

Many of my favorite recipe ideas actually begin during everyday family dinners or while planning meals for the week.

Meet My Biggest Taste Testers

My family is the heart of everything I create. They’re the first to taste new recipes, offer honest feedback, and let me know which dishes deserve a permanent spot in our meal rotation.

Many of the recipes you’ll find on The Plated Joy have become regular favorites at our dinner table, and I hope they’ll become favorites in your home too.
